Yasunori Kagoike (C), head of school operator Moritomo Gakuen, attends a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on March 23, 2017 in Tokyo, Japan. Kagoike, who's schools are renowned for their nationalist approach to education, had earlier testified under oath before a Japanese parliamentary committee that he had received an envelope containing 1 million Yen (approx. USD 9,000) in cash as a gift from Akie Abe the wife of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Abe and his wife have previously denied giving any financial support to the educator with the Prime Minister even offering to resign in the event that this was proved wrong.
