Colorful paper strips (Tanzaku) hang on bamboo branches as part of the Tanabata festival at Zozoji Temple on July 7, 2017, Tokyo, Japan. About 4000 lanterns, made by students, are displayed along the stairs of the temple simulating the Milky Way as part of Tanabata festival at Zozoji Temple. The annual celebration of Tanabata commemorates the legend of two lovers separated by the Milky Way who only meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month.
