The NEWoMaN department store opened its doors to the public on March 25 and includes some 100 retailers on six floors of JR Shinjuku Miraina Tower and the JR Shinjuku Station New South Exit station building. Shinjuku Station features in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's busiest transport hub with over 3.3 million passengers using the station everyday in 2013 and the new department is aiming to generate 20 billion yen in annual sales.   • January 27, 2019, Tokyo, Japan - A woman walks past capsule offices in Shinjuku Station. The offices called ''Station Work'' are installed inside the East Japan Railway Company's Shinjuku, Shinagawa and Tokyo Stations. The offices equipped with a desk, a monitor, USB power outlets and free Wi-Fi. It can be used for personal issues for free (no longer than 30 minutes each session) after created for an account on their website. For business, users need to make a reservation by phone. The offices are available until February 20, 2019.

  • July 27, 2019, Tokyo, Japan - Eisa dancers perform during the Shinjuku Eisa Festival 2019 in Tokyo's Shibuya ward. This year 22 Eisa dance troupes performed on the streets near to Shinjuku Station beating portable taiko drums as they moved through the crowds. The Eisa is a Bon dance originated from Okinawa which memorial service for wishing for health, safety, and prosperity of each house, and pray for the repose of the spirits.

  • A digital billboard displays a big 3-D cat waking up and looking at pedestrians as if it might jump off the screen outside Shinjuku Station. The curved LED screen can display 4K images, creating a depth effect and jaw-dropping 3D effect from the rooftop of the recently constructed Cross Shinjuku building. The new 3D ads went viral on the internet after people spread videos of animal-shaped ads jumping off the screens in China and South Korea.

Tokyo confirmed 165 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest number since April 18. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to extend the state of emergency beyond May 6 to control the coronavirus spread in the country.

Seibu Railway corporation announced that they will rent out entire carriages for party groups, on its Seibu Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Hajima and Kokubunji Lines, allowing the group to choose which station to be picked up at and to be dropped off at. The special party service is aimed at alumni groups especially those that previously studied and commuted along one of the lines. In collaboration with Syoya Inc., a company specialised in organising alumni parties, the train company is taking bookings through till May for parties to be held between September and December this year.
